Wotruba, Fritz

Wotruba, Fritz
(1907-1975)
Designer. Wotruba was primarily known as a sculptor—one whom the Nazis considered entartet, or decadent beyond the pale of redemption. In the 1960s he began designing costumes for the Burgtheater in Vienna, and for Gustav Sellner's "Sophocles Cycle," he designed a stunning catalogue of costumes for all of Sophocles' tragedies that were staged both at the Burg and at the Salzburg Festival.
